"Free" means different things on group card sites. On some, the whole card is free. On others you can design for free but pay before anyone can sign, or the card is free only if the group also buys a gift.
We checked six group card sites on their live websites on 15 October 2026 — pricing pages, homepages and FAQs, as a UK visitor, without signing up. Below is what each one gives you free, what it costs when it isn't, and who it suits. Every price and quote links to the page it came from.
Full disclosure: we make Hey Friday, one of the six. We've tried to be straight about where others do better.
The short answer
Free, no conditions: Hey Friday and Collection Pot.
Free with conditions: GreetPool (selected free designs, or free with a gift of $20 or more).
Not free: GatheredCards (from £3.99 to share), GroupGreeting (£5.99 a card) and Kudoboard (from $6.99 a board).
What we compared
Free tier: can a group sign and receive a card without anyone paying?
Limits: caps on signers, messages, GIFs, photos or video.
Price when it isn't free, in pounds where the site shows pounds.
Printing: can you get a physical card posted, or only a PDF?
Gift collection: can the group chip in for a gift alongside the card, and what does it cost?
UK fit: UK pricing, UK printing and postage, UK retailers.
Hey Friday
Free tier: the e-card is free to design, sign and send, however many people sign. No account is needed to sign — people open the link and write their message, with GIFs, stickers, photos and video. See free group e-cards.
Paid: nothing on the card itself.
Printing: yes. The design and every message are printed on 280gsm card and posted anywhere in the UK, to the recipient or to you, from £5 plus £1.85 UK postage.
Gift collection: not offered alongside the card at the moment. If you need to collect money for a gift too, Collection Pot is the more complete option today.
Where it falls short: a smaller design range than the older sites, and fewer occasions — designs currently cover leaving, birthday, retirement, new baby, thank you, good luck and get well soon.
Best for: UK teams who want a free card that everyone can sign, with a printed copy to hand over if they want one. Start with a free leaving card or a free birthday card.
Collection Pot
Free tier: yes, with no strings. Their e-card page says you can "send as many group e-cards as you like for free", with "unlimited messages, unlimited pages" and "no limit on contributors" (collectionpot.com/eCard). You don't have to collect money to use it.
Paid: the card is free; they earn from money collections. Their pricing page lists "1.9% + 20p per contribution", which the contributor can choose to cover (collectionpot.com/pricing). The same page lists a storage fee of £1.49 a month that starts six months after a collection closes, and 5% (minimum £5) to take a gift-card-only collection as cash.
Printing: printed cards are offered, paid from the collection balance. We couldn't find a published price.
Gift collection: yes — it's their core product, with cash or gift card payouts.
Best for: UK groups who want to collect money and send a card in one place. It's the most established option for that.
GreetPool
Free tier: conditional. The pricing FAQ says a "selected number of designs" are free with "no restrictions on messages, signers or any features", rotated periodically and marked FREE (greetpool.com/pricing). Any card is also free if the group adds a gift: "Your Group Card is FREE at $20+" (greetpool.com/group-gift-cards).
Paid: £4.79 for a single card as shown to a UK visitor, with packs from 6 for £27 and subscriptions from £20 a month (greetpool.com/pricing). Some of the site's FAQ copy still quotes "starts at $4.99", so check the price at checkout.
Printing: no physical printing — a downloadable PDF only.
Gift collection: yes, as a group gift card from a long list of brands. The service fee isn't published as a figure.
Best for: groups happy to pick from the free designs, or who are buying a gift card anyway. The site, brands and copy are US-leaning.
Kudoboard
Free tier: we couldn't find one. The live pricing page has no free board; the cheapest, Lite, shows "$6.99 Per Board" (kudoboard.com/pricing). Its "Start for Free" button leads into the normal create flow and doesn't say what's free. Older reviews mention a free mini board; it isn't on the current pricing page. The Business plan has a trial "with no credit card required".
Paid: Lite $6.99 (up to 20 posts), Premium $9.99, Milestone $19.99; business plans are monthly. Prices are in US dollars.
Printing: yes, as a book or poster, priced in USD (kudoboard.com/print).
Gift collection: yes, as group gift cards, with a card processing fee of "roughly 3.95%" per contribution (kudoboard.com/gift-cards).
Best for: larger organisations wanting boards for lots of occasions on a company plan, and US-based teams.
GroupGreeting
Free tier: none found. The only free thing we found was signing their public demo card.
Paid: £5.99 for a single card, with GBP auto-selected for a UK visitor, and packs from 10 for £54 (groupgreeting.com/pricing). Unused pack cards expire after 12 months. Their general FAQ still says "$4.99 USD + tax" (groupgreeting.com/faq), so check at checkout.
Printing: no physical card — a PDF only.
Gift collection: yes, a gift card from over 100 retailers that signers can chip in to, with a small flat fee per contribution.
Best for: people who want a polished, established product and don't mind paying per card.
GatheredCards
Free tier: you can build and preview a card free, but you pay before anyone else can sign. Their homepage says "the only thing a credit unlocks is sharing" (gatheredcards.com), and their pricing page says "only pay to share when you're happy with it" (gatheredcards.com/pricing). Some directories still list it as free; the live site doesn't.
Paid: a group card is £3.99, or £5.99 for premium with video and audio messages; a bundle of five is £14.97. Signers, images and GIFs are unlimited.
Printing: no physical card — a print-ready PDF.
Gift collection: yes, collected towards a voucher. Turning it on is free; their page says a fee of "6% plus 40p" is added to each contribution (gatheredcards.com/gift-card-voucher-collection-pot).
Best for: UK teams who don't mind paying a few pounds for a well-designed card with unlimited signers.
Which one should you use?
You just want a free card everyone can sign: Hey Friday or Collection Pot. Both are free with no signer limit.
You want a printed card to hand over: Hey Friday (from £5 plus £1.85 UK postage, price published) or Collection Pot (paid from the collection balance). Kudoboard prints too, in USD. The others give you a PDF to print yourself.
You need to collect money for a gift as well: Collection Pot is the most complete UK option. GreetPool, Kudoboard, GroupGreeting and GatheredCards all collect towards gift cards or vouchers, with different fees.
You're happy to pay for a particular design: GatheredCards from £3.99, GreetPool from £4.79 or GroupGreeting at £5.99.
How we checked
We visited each site's live pricing page, homepage and FAQ on 15 October 2026 as a UK visitor, without creating an account. GreetPool, GroupGreeting and GatheredCards show prices based on your location, so the pound figures above are what a UK visitor sees; Kudoboard shows US dollars. Prices and free tiers change, so check the linked page before you choose. If anything here is out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.
