What is Hey Friday?

Hey Friday is a platform that makes it easy to collect money from colleagues for workplace occasions — birthdays, leaving gifts, new babies, retirements, and more. You create a collection, share a link, and everyone can chip in with a personal message.
How do I start a collection?

Sign up for a free account, click 'Start a collection', choose the occasion, add the recipient's name, set a deadline, and you're done. You'll get a unique link to share with your colleagues via email, Slack, or however you prefer.
Is it free to create a collection?

Yes, creating a collection is completely free. There are no subscription fees, no setup costs, and no hidden charges. A small service fee (1.9% + 20p) is applied per contribution to keep the platform running.
How do I invite people to contribute?

Once your collection is live, you can share the link directly or use the built-in invite feature to send email invitations. You can add invitees one by one or import a list by pasting names and emails or uploading a CSV file.
Do contributors need to create an account?

No. Contributors can chip in without signing up — they just need the collection link. They enter their name, email, amount, and an optional personal message. Only organisers need an account.
Payments
What payment methods are accepted?

We accept all major debit and credit cards including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Payments are processed securely through Checkout.com.
What fees are involved?

A service fee of 1.9% + 20p is applied to each contribution. The organiser can choose whether this is added on top of the contributor's amount or deducted from the total collected. There are no withdrawal fees, no tips, and no inactivity charges.
Are payments secure?

Absolutely. All payments are processed by Checkout.com, a PCI DSS Level 1 certified payment provider. We never store card details on our servers. Your payment information is encrypted end-to-end.
Can I get a refund?

If a collection hasn't been redeemed yet, please contact our support team and we'll help arrange a refund. Once a collection has been redeemed as a gift card or withdrawn, refunds are no longer possible.
Collections
Can I set a target amount?

Yes. When creating a collection you can set an optional target amount. Contributors will see a progress bar showing how close you are to the goal. The collection will still accept contributions beyond the target.
What happens when a collection closes?
+
When a collection reaches its deadline (or you close it manually), no more contributions can be made. You'll receive an email with a summary. You can then redeem the total as a gift card, send it to the recipient to choose their own gift, or download all the personal messages as a PDF.
Can I close a collection early?

Yes, as long as the collection has been open for at least 2 days. After that, you can close it at any time from the organiser toolbar. All contributors will still be able to see their messages.
Can the recipient redeem the collection themselves?

Yes. When you create a collection, you can choose whether you (the organiser) will redeem it, or whether the recipient should receive a link to choose their own gift card. If you choose the recipient option, they'll get an email when the collection closes.
Can I edit a collection after it's been created?

Yes. As the organiser, you can edit the title, description, target amount, deadline, theme, and photos at any time while the collection is active. Click the Settings button in the organiser toolbar to enter edit mode.
Gift Cards & Redemption
What gift cards are available?

We offer a wide range of gift cards from popular retailers, restaurants, and experiences. The available options are shown when you redeem your collection. Gift cards are delivered digitally via email.
Can I withdraw the money as cash instead of a gift card?

Yes. When redeeming a collection, you have the option to receive the funds as a bank transfer instead of a gift card. The money will be sent to your nominated bank account.
How long do gift cards take to arrive?

Digital gift cards are typically delivered to the recipient's email within minutes of redemption. If you don't see it, check your spam folder or contact us for help.
Privacy & Security
Can I contribute anonymously?

Yes. When chipping in, you can tick the 'Stay anonymous' option. Your name won't be shown on the collection page, but the organiser can still see that a contribution was made. Your email address is never shown to other contributors.
Who can see my email address?

Your email address is kept private. The organiser cannot see the email addresses of contributors unless they were the ones who invited you. Other contributors never see your email. We only use your email to send you a receipt.
How is my data handled?

We take privacy seriously. Your data is stored securely, we never sell personal information, and we comply with GDPR. You can read our full privacy policy for more details. You can unsubscribe from any emails at any time.
